报告人简介:
Dr Wei Wu is an Assistant Professor of Rock Mechanics at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. He received his PhD degree at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland. Prior to joining NTU, he was a Postdoctoral Scholar at Stanford University. Dr Wu is the author of more than 50 journal and conference articles on rock mechanics and reservoir geomechanics, and has received 10 research grants equivalent to 2 million US dollars from Singapore, Switzerland, and China. His current research focuses on mechanism of induced seismicity, unconventional energy extraction and storage.
报告摘要:
Understanding the fluid injection-driven instability of fractures and faults is critical for optimizing the strategies of harvesting unconventional energy trapped in deep rocks. I will present a suite of fluid injection-driven shear tests on rock fractures and describe the results in four aspects: fluid injection heterogeneity, seismic energy release, fracture frictional instability and surface evolution. I will discuss the mechanisms of injection-induced seismicity, with emphasis on two key questions: how pressurized fluid perturbs critically stressed faults, and how unexpected seismic energy releases from fault rupture. I will also scale up the laboratory experiments to compare laboratory-scale with field-scale induced earthquakes.
